Angus on Global Tour
AFC mascots, Angus the Bull and his cousin Donny the Sheep, started out on their 84,405 mile journey yesterday with the plan to connect with 30 Aberdeens from around the world.
Scottish Charity Shopmobility Aberdeen, based Union Square, planned the journey from start to finish with the aim to share and celebrate everything good about Aberdeen - at home and abroad.
Sponsors Hellmann Worldwide, Rainbow City Taxis, White Wolf Collective and Aberdeen FC Community Trust joined Shopmobility and the Lord Provost at Pittodrie to wave off our fluffy friends who are set to visit Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, America, Sierra Leone and many more through #LittleAngusOnTour.
Katrina Erskine, Manager tells us more: “Aberdeen is an interesting and dynamic city that is steeped in history, but we are not the only ones to carry the Aberdeen title. When our volunteers realised that there were over 30 Aberdeen’s we felt inspired to reach out to them. It has been great fun finding out more about our international namesakes and we are really excited to see Angus’s snaps which we plan to share through our facebook channel @littleangusontour.
“Shopmobility is very proud of the Granite City, and dedicated to helping anyone with a mobility difficulty, be it temporary or permanent, to tour the city and see the sites first hand. Shopmobility Aberdeen creates freedom to get about the city centre.”
On their travels Angus and Donny plan to visit 4 continents, travelling 3 times the earth’s circumference. The pair plan to visit the birthplace of Kurt Cobain, the home of the frozen chip, the birthplace of the sealed tin can and the home of South African Ostrich farming.
Speaking of the initiatives The Lord Provost said: “I thought it was a great idea to send Angus off to the Aberdeen’s the world. I think the football mascots will be great ambassadors for our Aberdeen and I look forward to see their holiday snaps. Shopmobility do fantastic work helping people to experience everything that Aberdeen has to offer and now they are helping us to share this on a global scale.”
